BASE MAPS AND GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SYSTEM ON CD-ROM

The Fairbanks North Star Borough base maps and data from the FNSB Geographic Information System
(GIS) are available to the public on CD-ROM. The GIS includes the Borough base map on a single file,
taxroll and ownership information, zoning, Borough-owned lands, soils maps, U.S.G.S. maps, and other information. The base maps are generated in AutoCAD (.dwg files), and can best be viewed using
AutoCAD or AutoCAD LT from AutoDesk. If you do not have AutoCAD or another .dwg viewer, the
CD includes the installation file for Volo View Express, a free .dwg viewer from AutoDesk, Inc. The
GIS data is generated using ArcView 3.x (.shp files), and can best be viewed using ESRI's ArcView
software. If you do not have ArcView, the CD contains the installation file for ArcExplorer, the free
GIS viewer from ESRI. Sample projects are included for ArcView and ArcExplorer to help you get started.
The cost of the CD is $50.00.
