A Regular Municipal election is held annually in the Fairbanks North Star Borough on the first Tuesday in October. 

The next Regular Municipal Election is October 2, 2012.

There are 41 precincts within the Fairbanks North Star Borough established by the State. See FNSB Election Code 2.12.

The Mayor, Assembly and School Board members are elected on an at-large basis for staggered three-year terms. This means that no matter where they reside, they represent the entire borough population.

A qualified person may have their name placed on the ballot as a candidate for the elective office by filing with the clerk a properly and fully completed sworn declaration of candidacy and a properly and fully completed Public Official Financial Disclosure statement, from August 1 through August 15, 4:30 pm.  Should August 1 or 15 fall on a Saturday or Sunday, candidates shall have until 4:30 pm on the first Monday to file their declaration.  A candidate shall pay a $25 non-refundable filing fee.

Qualifications
A qualified voter who has resided within the borough for a period of one (1) year prior to filing their declaration of candidacy is eligible to be borough mayor whether they reside inside a city or in the area of the borough outside the cities.

Qualifications
To be eligible to be a member of the school board, a person must have the same qualifications as are necessary to be a municipal voter in the Fairbanks North Star Borough.
