Where can you cut?

Areas for personal use firewood permits :  North Pole: located at Brock and Repp Roads, Salcha:  located off Johnson Road north of Pump Station #8, and Tanana 440 Area adjacent to Rosie Creek Subdivision, AS OF 5/25/11 IS OPEN FOR FIREWOOD COLLECTION (5 cord limit).
Permits must be obtained at the Land Management Department Office. Please check the website for updates or call 459-1241.

What can I cut?

The Borough's firewood cutting program is a selective cutting program aimed at improving the health of our interior forest.  Permits allow to the holder to take standing dead or fallen down Birch and Spruce AND over-mature Birch.  Aspen and Cottonwood can be taken in any state of health but taking these species is not encouraged because it is an inferior wood to burn for heat.

How much?

Personal use firewood cutting permits are limited to 20 cords per person per year, there is no minimum.  The cost is $5.00 per cord.  Commercial firewood cutting units may be available, please call our office - 459-1241.

More good information on burning wood from the EPA and FNSB Air Quality.

The Land Management department is responsible for the acquisition, management and transfer of real property owned by the borough.

The department issues all leases, licenses and other agreements for the use of the Borough's land and resources. The department conducts the annual land sale program making land available to the Borough's residents through subdivision and recreational development as well as large parcel sales. These sales generate revenue which in turn supports the continuing sale program. The department is also responsible for the annual Tax Foreclosure Program which helps to keep individual property owner's taxes down through the collection of delinquent property taxes.
